I've now been in London 11 days and I must say that I think I've settled in much faster than I did when I moved to NYC 12 months ago. Maybe it's because my sister is here and also because the people at work all seem really cool.
So cool in fact that we actually went out for drinks and dancing last Friday in what was my first London clubbing experience. I went straight from work out with them.
On Saturday afternoon I roamed around trying to find SoHo (the London gayborhood). I did manage to find it and G-A-Y bar. A bar where I received a discounted flyer for entry to G-A-Y megaclub.
I've been told if there is one place I need to go to in London it is G-A-Y club. So on Saturday I went by my lonesome to the club and had what was an amazing time. They had as a special musical guest a member of the UK girl group Mis-Teeq. She sung the one song I knew which was "Scandalous" and a few of her own new singles by herself. It was a good time.
During the night of dancing I ended up sweating through everything I had on except my jeans...and even those were probably damp...
Alcohol actually works out to be cheaper here in London than in NYC. In fact, I'd say that a Starbucks latte costs about as much as a glass of alchie here.
I'll try to make it back to G-A-Y club this week as they have Estelle performing. She has that "American Boy" song with Kanye West and her album is really good.
The Brits sure know how to party. I left around 4:30 with the club still crowded. The club doesn't close until 6am with after hours starting....at 6am.....That is insane.
I danced with a few (well actually 6) guys who definitely didn't seem shy about approaching me unlike NYC where I could just end up in a staring contest with a guy to no avail.
At the end of the night I did some approaching of my own and walked over to this guy who I had seen scoping me out earlier in the night and got his number so we could meet for lunch or something since he works out by where I work.
We planned to have lunch on this past Tuesday but I got pulled into an all day meeting early that morning so I had to cancel. I tried to reschedule by offering suggestions of times/days but instead of him actually suggesting some times/days himself he just kept saying "Can't make it that day" to each suggestion.
I became frustrated and pretty much said "Why don't you tell me when you're available. TTYL." and left it at that. So annoying.
I also joined a gym this past Monday and after telling one of the guys (who is hott but straight) at work, he invited me to join him for his lunchtime workout session.
Today was the first time I went and all of the weight was in kilos (of course) and not pounds so I had no clue what anything was. Back in the US, everything was labeled in both pounds AND kilos but here its only kilos.
I must say I liked working out with him and I guess he likes it too since he now wants to workout together 5 days a week.
So yeah, I'm quickly settling into London life....I guess that's it for now.
